Casa D, Winner, GRAIL awards Link to Source
Casa D by Cometa Architects was awarded the prestigious GRAIL Award 2025 – First Prize in the category of Reuse – Restoration – Addition/Extension, during a celebrated ceremony at the Athens Conservatoire. The project was recognized for its bold yet sensitive renovation and extension of a 1960s residence in Holargos. In a highlight of the evening, Christos Pappas, Director at Zaha Hadid Architects, praised the project live on stage, speaking with admiration about its architectural clarity and congratulating Cometa Architects for their exceptional work.
The design preserves the original structural core while introducing a minimalist architectural language. A solid concrete façade, tactically perforated, protects the interior from its dense urban context, while a new steel-framed upper level transforms the spatial dynamics with double-height interiors and a cascading three-tier garden. The integration of sustainable technologies—photovoltaic panels, aerothermal climate control, and rainwater retention—reinforces the studio’s commitment to ecological design excellence.
