Marina

Barcelona, Spain
Living and bedroom area with copper lighting, wooden panels, and microcement surfaces by Cometa Architects in Barcelona

Residential.  Olimpic Port Barcelona Spain.  56 m2. Completed. 2020

Located near Barcelona’s Olympic Marina, Marina Apartment  pays direct tribute to its maritime setting. The 56 sqm residence was completely reconfigured through the removal of all internal partitions and the opening of the main façade toward the sea, transforming the compact floor plan into a single continuous space. This renovation embraces light, material precision, and openness, creating an essential architectural experience that blurs the boundary between the interior and the Mediterranean horizon.

The vessel-like concrete interior is finished in light grey microcement, inspired by the raw docks visible from the nearby marina. Exposed copper pipes and fittings extend across the surfaces like a functional network, their warm tone providing both structure and ornament. Lighting and installations follow this same precision, blending utility with material beauty.

Two sculptural white volumes — a kitchen island and a freestanding bathtub — define the wet areas. Elevated slightly above the floor, they appear to float within the space, introducing lightness and contrast to the minimalist architecture.

At the center of the square floor plan, a compact wooden core organizes all technical spaces — bathroom, laundry, closets, and installations — while defining a clear geometry. The program unfolds symmetrically around it: kitchen and storage to one side, living and sleeping areas facing the sea, and bathing to the other.

Custom furniture, including integrated wooden beds, sofas, and closets, maximizes storage and reinforces the apartment’s seamless continuity. Underfloor heating ensures thermal comfort while keeping the interior free of visible systems.
